02-08-2021 till 14-08-2021: Actually we were going fishing in Norway for the past 2 weeks but unfortunately both the Norwegian and the Dutch government have made a mess in terms of covid measures and communication about this :( Norway was not open to Dutch tourists until June but because the corona figures in the Netherlands Dutch tourists were allowed to go to Norway in June. Unfortunately, the Dutch government decided to stop almost all measures with the result that we went from 500 infections per day to more than 10,000 and Norway closed the borders again for unvaccinated people. My wife and i were allowed to travel to norway but the children did not. So we decided to book another holiday in the Netherlands. At the beginning of Augustes, Norway made an exception for unvaccinated children whose parents are vaccinated....... This whole joke cost us about 2000 euros where we could have bought a lot of fishing gear from it, but no more thinking about it and FISH!
02-08-2021: The first day at the campsite started well. We decided to go fishing for asp in the harbor in the afternoon, which yielded the first fish of the holiday within 15 minutes. After dinner we went fishing with shads in the IJssel, unfortunately we did not manage to catch a pikeperch, but we did catch a nice pike.
03-08-2021: During the holiday we fished out several canals that run through the polders of Terwolde. In general they are not wide (guess 3 meters) but certainly a meter deep. On Tuesday we fished out the Terwold wetering, see red line. This resulted in the capture of 14 Perch.
04-08-2021: On Wednesday we decided to swap the spinners for lures so we caught less perch and had a better chance to catch a pike. Of course there were again two perch that managed to find the lures in the Nijbroekse wetering (see purple line) but luckily we also managed to catch two nice pike.
05-08-2021: On Thursday we went to Deventer. Where we went fishing in the harbors after watching a movie in the cinema. This evening my youngest son made a mistake he will not soon forget. Hours my son and I threw without getting a bite. After a few hours he had had enough and handed his rod to my wife who get a hit on the rod on the first cast and she managed to catch a nice catfish.
06-08-2021: On Friday, my youngest son again made the mistake of handing his rod to my wife at the wrong time. On our walk around Hattem we saw a group of ide swimming to which me and my youngest son threw our bait to. After half an hour of casting he decided to give his rod to his mother again, and you guessed it..... She caught a nice ide on the first cast. Unfortunately the rain came so we couldn't fish for long.
07-08-2021: Saturday all our luck really ran out. During the walk around the beautiful village of Oene. I quickly managed to hook a pike which unfortunately also shot loose again. Five hundred yards away, a perch clapped on the bait but fell off the hook while turning in . And if you think it can't go wrong a kilometer later a pike swam quietly behind my bait and just before the shore he bit carefully behind the hook of my shed, after which he swam away again. A nice day and a nice walk only unfortunately without fish :(
08-08-2021: What shall we say about Sunday...... Let's forget this day and quickly tell about Monday..... Okay, we managed to catch two perch....
09-08-2021: Because my wife first went home to pick up my oldest son, we only went fishing after dinner. This time we drove to the ferry at Olst where we walked north along the IJssel until we couldn't go any further. If you want to fish here, make sure you keep throwing into the river the IJssel. On the left is a channel for which you need an extra permit. In the end we stayed until sunset and caught 5 bass. When I returned to the car I decided to throw a few more times in the IJssel and finally the first pikeperch of the holiday arrived.
10-08-2021: Tuesday was the first day that my oldest son went fishing and I knew that right away. In the grote wetering (see black line) near the town of Teuge he managed to catch three pikes and a perch. Okay, they weren't mega pikes but they are pikes!
11-08-2021: Tuesday evening we drove to the harbors of Deventer again, this time with a bowl of worms so that my daughter could catch some smaller fish. In addition to 5 gobies, she also managed to catch a nice Perch. Unfortunately, the pikeperch again refused to bite.
12-08-2021: Wednesday we walked with the whole family from the town of Veessen along the IJssel. Soon I got the first bite after which my line broke. I suspect it was a catfish or a large pike. After this my eldest son went wild. First he managed to catch the largest ide I have ever seen and then another very nice asp. Fortunately, after a few perch, I also managed to end the day with a nice asp.
13-08-2021: Thursday was a weird fishing day. Together with my wife we went fishing along a beach in Deventer. Suddenly we saw ambulances and fire trucks driving along the other side and several boats circling in the water. Unfortunately, a swimmer had swum too far out of the shore and was taken away by the stream. After 30 minutes, they were able to get him out of the water and he was rushed to the hospital after CPR. Before this happened I lost a asp and after that the fishing joy was a bit over. We did go fishing under the train bridge of Deventer, but not on the side of the IJssel. In the canal you can fish on the south side of the train track, but on the north side is a nature reserve where fishing is strictly prohibited. Finally i managed to catch a few perch and a small asp.
14-08-2021: Friday was finally my fishing day again. During a very nice walk around the town of Heerde I managed to catch pike number 7 of the holiday ,and the plan was to stop fishing now.
Still, my eldest son and I had a premonition that we still had to catch a few fish, so in the evening we went again from the campsite to the IJssel. After a few perch a asp suddenly bite on my lure and on one of the last casts i caught the second pikeperch of this holiday.
27-08-2021 till 29-08-2021: After two weeks of predatory fishing it was again time to catch a carp. Now sand pits are not my favorite waters for fishing but with the carp I managed to catch this weekend I will definitely try it more often ;)
